Crypto payment gateway with payment orchestration
We built a crypto payment gateway that lets businesses accept fiat and crypto payments in one platform
Thanks to payment orchestration, it gives users more ways to buy, sell, and pay with digital assets. This is a licensed fintech – and we helped keep the crypto trading part fully compliant.

Add crypto payment gateway to your platform
Payment orchestration for thousands of supported assets
The client wanted to build a crypto payment gateway to support more ways to pay, buy, sell, and settle digital assets. They wanted the broadest payment option coverage possible, so we had to integrate dozens of providers.
But every payment method has limits. Some acquirers do not want to work with high-risk merchants. Others support them, but with very high fees. So even for a single payment method, the platform needed to orchestrate multiple partners. It had to automatically decide which route fit each merchant and transaction. A payment should either work, fail clearly, or move to the next available path.
Crypto makes this harder because payment and settlement can be very different things
A customer may want to pay with in crypto, while the merchant wants to receive stablecoins. The gateway has to handle all conversion inside the payment flow.
For a licensed fintech, all of this had to stay in a controlled, compliant environment. We had to build an engine for managing all transaction paths. Here's how we did it.

The goal: Make crypto, fiat, and banking acquirers work as one product
Solution
Fiat orchestration: matching merchants with the right acquirer
Fiat coverage depends on the acquiring partners behind the payment gateway. The acquirer decides which merchants it is willing to support.
So if a gateway depends on a single acquiring partner, it can only work with the types of merchants that partner is willing to accept.
Some acquirers avoid high risk merchants altogether. Others will support them, but only at higher fees. Meanwhile, low risk merchants expect better terms and do not want to be priced like edge cases.
The more acquiring partners the payment gateway supports, the more flexibility it has.
So the challenge was to build a gateway that could route each merchant to the right acquiring setup based on risk profile, geography, and commercial fit.
Acquirer orchestration
We added routing logic across multiple acquiring partners. This let the gateway choose the best-fit provider for each merchant case instead of forcing all flows through a single partner.
Bank transfer
We integrated fiat bank transfer flows as part of the gateway, so merchants could accept SEPA and SWIFT payments.
Card payment
We also integrated card payments into the fiat module, giving the gateway support for standard card processing through its acquiring partner infrastructure.
Fiat payouts
We added fiat payout functionality, so the platform could also send funds out through traditional rails instead of only collecting incoming payments. This expanded the gateway into a more complete fiat payment module
Crypto payments:
broader token coverage through DEX integration
Every extra step increases the chance of losing the customer.
The client needed a way to expand token coverage without passing that complexity to merchants. Merchants do not want settlement in thousands of volatile assets. In most cases, they want to receive a specific asset, usually a stablecoin.
So the real challenge was about giving customers more ways to pay at best possible rates. To do that, the crypto payment gateway needed direct access to deeper on-chain liquidity and a way to convert incoming assets automatically inside the payment flow.
On/off ramps
with payment orchestration
On- and off-ramp infrastructure had the same problem. If the gateway relies on a single ramp provider, it is locked into that provider’s coverage, pricing, execution model, and supported payment methods.
The client needed both directions in one place. Users had to be able to buy crypto with fiat and sell crypto back into fiat without leaving the platform. No single ramp provider is best at everything. One offers stronger coverage for certain regions. Another has better pricing.
We added orchestration across multiple ramp providers. This let the gateway choose the best route for each buy or sell flow instead of sending every transaction through one fixed provider. We also added access to an OTC desk for larger orders, where price slippage and market movement matter more. The client got a more reliable way to handle high-volume transactions with stronger price certainty before execution.
On ramp
We added on-ramp functionality, so users could buy crypto with fiat directly through the gateway instead of going to a separate platform first.
Off ramp
We also added off-ramp functionality, so users could sell crypto and receive fiat through the same system. This gave the product a complete two-way conversion flow between fiat and digital assets.
OTC desk for larger orders
For larger transactions, we included access to an OTC desk. This gave the client a way to handle higher-volume buy and sell requests with more predictable execution and stronger price certainty.
Vouchers
Prepaid value inside the gateway
That’s why we integrated DFNS WaaS
The voucher module was built for gift and sharing flows. Clients can create prepaid vouchers and send them to friends to redeem later.
